Abstract

•Pr-doped Bi4Ge3O12 single crystals were grown by the floating zone method. •The emission due to Pr3+ 4f–4f transitions was observed in the visible–NIR range. •The NIR scintillation intensity was proportional to the X-ray exposure dose rate. •The lowest detection limit was 0.006 Gy/h when the 0.5% Pr-doped sample was used.
